About amodb

amodb is a paid API for movie and TV metadata. It answers on TMDB v3 and OMDb compatible paths, so existing clients work after a base URL change. It serves 14 languages and images from its own host. It is prepaid only, with no free tier and no ads, and plans differ only in requests per minute.

What amodb does

amodb gives developers movie and TV metadata through two API styles that many apps already speak:

  • TMDB v3 paths, parameters and JSON on https://api.amodb.dev/3
  • OMDb parameters and JSON on https://api.amodb.dev/omdb/

One key works for both. Images load from https://img.amodb.dev with TMDB sizes. Six extensions add moods, soundtracks, ratings from 5 sources in one call, structured facts, cinema showtimes and lookups by external id.

Why it is paid

A free tier invites shared and leaked keys, and every paying customer then pays for that traffic. amodb is prepaid instead. Each key has a fixed request rate, 20, 40 or 120 per minute, and that rate is reserved for you.

Prices are public on the pricing page and come from the same catalog the API uses at https://api.amodb.dev/plans.

How it is built

  • An edge network checks your key and rate before anything else, then answers from a shared cache when it can.
  • Cache times are fixed and public: 24 hours for configuration, 6 hours for details and credits, 30 minutes for lists, 10 minutes for search, 30 days for images.
  • Error bodies keep the TMDB and OMDb shapes, so existing error handling keeps working.
  • Keys are stored as SHA-256 hashes. Passwords use PBKDF2 with 210,000 iterations.

What we promise

  • No ads and no third party trackers on amodb.dev.
  • No automatic renewals. You pay when you choose to.
  • Changes that could break a client are listed in the changelog before they take effect.
  • A person answers support email.
